Start/Bench--Week 1

Start
Armani Rogers, UNLV vs Howard
We mentioned in our Preseason Fantasy Guide that three UNLV quarterbacks combined for over 900 yards rushing last year.  Imagine if that type of production comes from one guy in 2017.  We’re sticking with one of our Sleeper picks in Week 1, as the redshirt freshman will operate behind an experienced offensive line.

Brandon Wimbush, Notre Dame vs Temple
We have a lot riding on Wimbush in 2017.  He was one of our Wildcards heading into this season and we suggested drafting him whenever possible.  If you drafted him after Round 5, we believe you got incredible value.  It may be an unfair comparison, but we pushed in as many chips on Wimbush this year as we did with Lamar Jackson in 2016.

Peyton Bender, Kansas vs SE Missouri St.
Even though it has not been formally announced, Bender is almost certain to lead the Jayhawks Air Raid Offense.  Given his Week 1 matchup against SE Missouri State, fantasy owners should find a way to get Bender into their Week 1 lineup, especially in two-quarterback leagues.

JaMycal Hasty, Baylor vs Liberty
When it was reported that teammate Terence Williams would miss time with a shoulder injury, Hasty shot up our draft board.  The longer it takes Williams to return, the more incredibly valuable Hasty becomes.  He won’t be overworked in a Week 1 matchup against Liberty, but he should solidify himself as a legitimate fantasy option in the Bears’ season opener.

Juwan Johnson, Penn State vs Akron
Johnson opened eyes in the spring and continued to impress in preseason camp, so it was no surprise when he was listed as the starting X-receiver.  So much attention will be given to RB Saquon Barkley, that Johnson should have several opportunities to make plays downfield in the Nittany Lions potent offense.

Bench
FAU QBs (Driskel, Johnson, and Parr) vs Navy
The Owls went into preseason camp with a two-man quarterback battle.  One week before hosting the Midshipmen, FAU has three guys that could take snaps in the season-opener.  While HC Lane Kiffin does not want to play three quarterbacks, we may not find out who the team’s starter will be until the Owls take the field Friday evening.

Jacques Patrick & Cam Akers, RBs-Florida State vs Alabama
For those of you that have been with us for a while, you know the routine.  For those are you that found us for the first time this season, rarely do we ever start a running back against the Alabama defense.  This week is no exception, especially if the ‘Noles decide to rotate Patrick and Akers into the game regularly.

Chris Warren, RB-Texas vs Maryland
We’re not saying that Warren is a Bust pick because he will get carries, but Kyle Porter, who is listed as the co-starter, may simply be better.  It wouldn’t surprise us if Warren becomes the short-yardage and goal line back, which would then make him a TD-or-bust fantasy start.

Kyle Hicks, RB-TCU vs Jackson State
As of Tuesday, Hicks’ chances of playing seemed 50/50, as he has been banged up a little in preseason camp.  How much does TCU have to gain by playing him vs Jackson State?  More importantly, how much do they have to lose?  A lot more and it’s not close.  Hicks and QB Kenny Hill are the Horned Frogs’ two most valuable offensive players in 2017, so if Hicks doesn’t get his points by halftime, he could disappoint.  If your league incorporates a penalty when playing FCS opponents, Hicks may be a wise Sit in Week 1.

Simmie Cobbs, Indiana vs Ohio State
If the Hoosiers are to upset the Buckeyes on Thursday night, you have to believe that they need Cobbs on the field.  However, there has been no announcement about whether or not Cobbs will face disciplinary action for his arrest last month.  Is he facing a full-game suspension or partial suspension?  Make other plans in Week 1 unless we get more clarity between now and kickoff.
