Freshmen to Watch in 2014

  • Kyle Allen, Texas A&M—Head coach Kevin Sumlin will likely choose between sophomore Kenny Hill and the top pro-style quarterback recruit in last year’s class.  The Aggies open the season at South Carolina and we’re curious to find out if Allen runs out to take the first snap or if he will be eased into action throughout the non–conference slate.  Either way, we project Allen as the starter by the time Texas A&M travels to Fayetteville, Arkansas on September 28.
  • Leonard Fournette, LSU—Adding the nation’s No. 1 running back recruit to a backfield that returns Terrence Magee and Kenny Hilliard gives the Tigers a deep stable of backs.  However, Fournette wasn’t the No. 1 RB recruit by default, he’s simply too talented and will earn a significant role in the LSU offense.
  • Speedy Noil, Texas A&M—Considering we wrote about Noil in both our Player Rankings and Sleepers, you have to know we like this guy, right?  He will not be able to touch the ball with every snap like Johnny Manziel, but they will figure out a way for the talented freshman to touch it often.
